Meet the Candidates |
Candidates
are chosen by local parties, through national party
organisations - which must approve local candidates.
Candidates are not required to live in the constituencies
in which they run; the candidate with the most votes
wins the constituency seat.
There are 42 candidates contesting seats in the General
Elections to be held on 12 March 2009. Both the UPP and the ALP nominated candidates in all 16 constituencies on Antigua, while the ALP and the UPP-aligned Barbuda People’s Movement put forward candidates to vie for the lone seat on the sister island. The fledgling Organisation for National Development, contesting its first general election, nominated four candidates. There are also four independent candidates.
