In recent times Antigua and Barbuda has been dominated by two parties - the United Progressive Party (UPP) and the Antigua Labour Party (ALP). Each party nominates one candidate for each constituency. Independent candidates may also stand for elections.

Antigua and Barbuda has a stable political environment founded on parliamentary democracy. The main political parties include the United Progressive Party (UPP), the Antigua Labour Party, Barbuda People's Movement and Barbuda People's Movement for Change. The current government is led by the UPP.
