
General elections were held in Aruba on 28 September 2001. The elections were the fifth to be held for membership of the Estates since autonomy was granted by the Dutch in 1986.
Electoral System
The 21 members of theunicameral Estates were elected by open list proportional representation in a single nationwide constituency.
Political Parties
A total of seven parties contested the election.
Results
The result was a victory for the People's Electoral Movement (MEP), which won 12 of the 21 seats in the Estates. |
