Dr. Esther Byer-Suckoo
is a daughter of the soil who believes that the people of St.
George and Barbados deserve better. She is appalled at
the extent of neglect which her St. George
South Constituency has suffered for decades.
Her love of people and her desire to see communities develop
with basic amenities for all, particularly the youth and
elderly, are the keys to Dr. Esther Byer-Suckoo's entry into
politics. She wants to serve at the highest political
level primarily to make an improvement in the lives of the
people of St. George and ultimately of all the people of
Barbados.
"Dr. Esther" grew up in Ellerton, went to
primary school at St. Lukes-Ellerton and on to Queens
College. After graduation in medicine at the University
of the West Indies she returned to her hometown to set up her
medical clinic as a family physician. This is her way of
giving something back to her community through caring for the
sick and elderly and counseling the youth with whom she comes
in daily contact.
Dr. Esther Byer-Suckoo's commitment to
improving the quality of life of ordinary people has taken her
to Africa with Uplift International to do medical missionary
work in Malawi and Uganda. This experience has helped to
shape her resolve to work to eradicate poverty and unnecessary
suffering.
Dr. Esther Byer-Suckoo's competence has been
widely recognized. She served with distinction as
General Secretary of the Barbados Association of Medical
Practitioners and has played a leadership role in several
local organizations such as the Ellerton HIV/AIDS
Committee. She is poised to bring real transformation to
healthcare to Barbados.
Esther is married to Rex Suckoo and they have
three sons aged 18, 16 and 11 years. |
