Virginia Irene
Sandiford-Garner grew up in St. Andrew and is
committed to the transformation of this currently neglected
parish. She feels strongly about the continued
degeneration of the social and physical infrastructure of a
once vibrant rural community and singles out the following
issues which she will address as the Parliamentary
representative for this constituency:
- Inadequate medical facilities
- The lack of a community centre and other
civic facilities which other constituencies enjoy
- High levels of unemployment
- The stagnation of agriculture
Irene is a graduate of Queen's College and
holds a Masters in Business Administration from the University
of the West Indies. She is a trained Journalist and
Marketing Executive. She has worked in the print media
and as a Credit Union Marketing Executive for several
years. She believes that the Credit Union movement has
the capacity to empower working class Barbadians.
Irene brings to the political arena several
innovative ideas for the sustainable development of St. Andrew
and Barbados. For example, she wants to see St. Andrew
recognized as the mineral and agricultural treasure chest of
Barbados. She also wants to see more young people
pursuing careers in cultural activities such as theatre, dance
and sports. She believes that all tertiary level
education should include training for enterprise so that more
Barbadians can begin to see themselves as masters of their own
destiny.
Irene and her husband own a laundry and an
entertainment management company, and have been advocates of
cultural tourism for many years. They are the proud
parents of two teenaged boys.
Irene wants to be part of a caring and
responsible government that creates more opportunities for
young people to realize their true potential in their own
country. |
