John Boyce is a
resident of Christ Church who is proud of the latent
enterprise of ordinary Barbadian people. In his daily
interaction with the working people of Christ Church he is
constantly reminded that they would like to play a more
meaningful role in the tourism and fishing industries.
Hence, he believes that a lot more could be done to up-grade
Oistins and integrate its product fully into the tourism
calendar. The plight of the local fishermen has
convinced him that there is a need for a viable fishing
agreement to be worked out urgently with our CARICOM
neighbours. He believes that there are too many people
with skills who have been marginalized and too many vulnerable
members of society - young and old - who have fallen through
the safety net. He wants to see them brought back into
the mainstream of society. That is John's motivation as
he seeks to be a representative of the people of Christ Church South and wider Barbados.
John is an old Harisonian who holds a
Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the
University of the West Indies and a Masters in Brewery Science
from the University of Birmingham in England. He has developed
a specialty in the field of Energy
Conservation and is an advocate of the need for
Barbados to search out renewable and environmentally friendly
energy sources.
Since 1994 John has worked tirelessly with
the youth, the underemployed, the unemployed and the elderly
in Christ Church South. He is an ardent sports fan and
has sponsored several sporting groups in football, cricket,
and dominoes. John would like to see the re-emergence of
strong community organizations, which he believes would help
to solve some of our social problems.
John is married to Carolyn and has a son,
Kevin. John has their full support as he embarks on a
full-time political career. |
