Michael Carrington was
born in St. Michael and considers it a privilege to represent
the St. Michael West constituency. He
has always believed in a fair, just and equitable society and
so was naturally attracted to the Democratic Labour
Party. Michael has witnessed how Barbados has developed
into two polarized societies in the last 12 years.
Evidence of this would include:
- The two housing classes that have
emerged, with many of his constituents losing out in the
struggle for land and affordable housing
- Unemployment, underemployment and
disguised unemployment in the context of a rising cost of
living
- The resort to crime, drugs and violence
He is very concerned that his constituency
has more than its fair share of these social ills and is
anxious to do something about it. His stated mission is
to help the Democratic Labour Party give persons in the lower
economic strata a genuine chance to improve their lot.
He believes that Barbados can afford to set minimum standards
below which no citizen should be allowed to fall.
Michael Carrington is more than adequately
equipped to address these issues. He is a product of the
Lodge School, the Barbados Community College and the
University of the West Indies. He currently works as an
Attorney-at-Law specializing in land, family and business law.
His has been actively involved with his
constituents, mainly through the Church, the Credit Union
Movement, youth groups and community projects. He spends
much of his time in the community trying to reduce juvenile
delinquency.
Michael is married to Sharon and they have
three children. |
