The Democratic Labour
Party's candidate for this constituency, Ronald Dac. Jones.
JP. was born on November 23rd, 1957 at Wilcox in the
Parish of Christ Church. He was initially educated at the St. Bartholomew Boys' School and then at the Washington High School. After
Graduating from Secondary School he went on to further his
studies at the Barbados Community College.
This was followed by teacher training certification at Erdiston Teachers' College. He then
went on to study for his Bachelors degree at the University Of The West Indies Cave Hill where
he studied History and Sociology. He
further completed a Masters Degree in Educational
Management and Administration at the University of London,
England.
During the period of academic study Ronald
was also able to gain certificates in Youth and
Community Work and Labour Management. He considers
education as the greatest liberating force in human life and
generally encourages individuals to become involved in
lifelong learning. He is quite proficient in the uses of
Information and Communication Technology, which he believes
are essential tools to the delivery of education, commerce,
communication, research and information.
Ronald is an Educator, Trade Unionist, Credit
unionist and Sports Administrator. He educated thousands of
young Barbadians within the formal education sector as part of
his profession and impacted on several hundreds in his
capacity as a leader in civil society, through other formal
and informal education strategies.
Ronald is quite proud of his involvement with
young people in such organizations as the Barbados
Youth Council, which he led for several years in the
late 1970's and early 1980's. He contributed to the cultural
and community development of many others by his leadership of
organizations, such as the Commonwealth Caribbean Youth
Workers Association of Barbados, the National Summer Camp
Committee, the St. Bartholomew's Boys' School Old Scholars
Association and Youth Group and the Cultural Group, Thirty
Three as One.
In the arena of labour relations, Ronald was
a founding member of the Congress of Trade Union and
Staff Associations of Barbados. He led the Barbados Union of Teachers as its President for six years having previously served as a Vice President and
Member of the Executive Board.
Ronald is the current President of
the Barbados Teachers' Co-operative Credit Union Ltd. He
has been on the Board of Directors and Credit Committee for
some ten years. His involvement with the Credit Union
Movement reflects his commitment to the uplifting of lives of
all citizens through the promotion collectivist action and the
empowerment of people. Under his leadership the Credit Union
is viewed as one of the strongest in Barbados.
Ronald has used his leadership and management
ability in the arena of sports. He is the current President of
the Barbados Football Association. Since his election in1998,
he has been re-elected as its President on four other
occasions. Under Ronald's guidance the BFA has moved from an
organization with a budget of $400,000.00 to one which now
operates with an annual Budget of $1,500,000.00. Furthermore
the sport has embraced many others, including a female league
and two national female teams.
He is a keen writer and has produced a book
on Quotes and Images of the Right Excellent Errol Walton
Barrow. He has written quite prolifically on Issues of
Education, Administration and the motivation of teachers. He
has contributed papers on Integrity in Public Office and
Changes to the Parliamentary System to the Commonwealth
Parliamentary Forum.
Ronald's Leadership and management experience
is unquestioned. He has had over thirty two years as a leader
of various organizations in civil society. He has led youth
organizations, sporting bodies, trade unions, church
committees, credit unions and cultural groups.
He is avid sportsman and believes that
Barbados has the talent and potential to succeed at the level
of Sports. He is committed to the youth in sports and has
invested time and resources to ensure that many of them reach
their optimum level of achievement.
Ronald is a Justice of the Peace having had
this honour conferred on him in 1991. This is among many of
the other recognitions, which he has received. The 4H
Movement, the Barbados Union of Teachers, The Christ Church
Boys' School among others have honoured him for his
outstanding service. |
