Stephen Albert Lashley
appreciates the vital role that Government must play in
creating opportunities for people. He grew up in the
Errol Barrow era and saw how astute leadership could transform
a society through education. He believes that the Barrow
Revolution is yet to be completed. He is particularly
concerned about the problems that confront his Christ
Church West Central constituents and includes among
them:
- The breakdown in community life
- Inadequate housing
- Neglect of the youth and disregard for the needs of the
elderly and the disabled.
Stephen Lashley wants to make a contribution
towards the process of empowerment of people and the
eradication of poverty in Barbados. He is well equipped
to take on a leadership role in contemporary Barbados.
He was educated at Presentation College and the Lodge
School. He later acquired two degrees from the
University of the West Indies - in Public Administration and
in Law.
His work experience includes having been a
Sub-editor, a News Reporter, a News Presenter, Current Affairs
Producer and Presenter - with various media of communication
and media houses. Stephen also worked as a Public
Relations Officer with the Government Information Service,
where he provided PR guidance to the Ministries of Education,
Health and the Office of the Attorney-General & Home
Affairs. He now works as an Attorney-at-Law and has been
in private practice for over ten (10) years. He is also
a former President and Director of the Barbados Public
Workers' Cooperative Credit Union Limited.
Stephen's leadership talent first found
expression in the St. John's Parish Church and the St. John's
Dramatic & Folk Singing Group. At school he played a
prominent role in sports and the Cadet Corps. He later
served as President of the UWI Guild of Undergraduates.
Stephen is married to Deborah Lashley, and
they have two daughters - Zahra and Nakiah.
This husband and father of two views his
entrance into elective politics as yet another plank in his
platform of service to Barbados. He revealed that his
extensive forays into Christ Church West Central have revealed
facets of Barbados which are not in consonance with the
developed 21st Century model this current Government would
wish to show the world. It is not a situation he is
comfortable with and his objective is to "negate the neglect." |
