Steven Blackett grew up
in St. Michael and knows his St. Michael
Central constituency well. He also knows that
his constituents deserve better. He cites poor housing,
unemployment and bad roads as the issues which the residents
of St. Michael Central are most concerned about. Over
the years he has observed a steady decline in the quality of
life of people living in the heavily populated areas of St.
Michael while standards rose elsewhere. He attributes
this to gross neglect by an uncaring government that leaves
things to chance. He knows that the role of government
in Barbados is to create the conditions for Barbadians to
better their lives and to realize their dreams in their own
country. He is convinced that only the Democratic Labour
Party has the philosophy and the commitment to transform the
living conditions of the masses of people in this country.
Steven Blackett is a self-made man who
received his early education at Wesley Hall and St. Leonard
Boys Schools. He later completed several courses at the
Barbados Institute of Management and Productivity and
transferred the acquired skills to Marketing, Sales and
Broadcasting. He is a strong advocate for self-reliance
and enterprise.
Steven's leadership talent has found
expression in his involvement in community projects such as
Junior Achievement, Barrow Children's Home and the Nightingale
Children's Home. He is a past President of the Kiwanis
Club of Bridgetown.
Steven is a firm believer that sport is a
vehicle for developing young people. In his constituency
he currently sponsors the Station Hill Football Club and
organizes several inter-parish sporting competitions.
Steven is the proud father of three boys aged
between 8 and 19 years. He feels strongly about the need
for government and communities to give greater support to
families. |
