Robert Clarke
Candidate for St. Michael West Central

Robert "Bobby" Clarke, an outspoken Attorney – at – Law will face the polls for the first time as he attempts to capture St. Michael West Central for PEP.

Mr. Clarke was educated at Wesley Hall Boys' School, Combermere School and the Sir George William University in Montreal where he studied Economics and Politics for 2 years. He then transferred to Middle Temple in London. Clarke returned to the Caribbean in 1965 and practiced in Dominica.

Clarke's Legal practice in Barbados focuses mainly on criminal law. He has taken the Government to Court for damages for nuisance to the Emmerton residents as a result of the stench from the sewerage plant.

Clarke formed the Barbados Industrial General Workers Union in 1980 which organized workers at such institutions as the Arawak Cement Plant, Heywood's Hotel, Opolika Garment Factory and the Sanitation Service Authority.

Clarke's political involvement began in Dominica and continued when he moved to Barbados where he became active in the People's Progressive Movement. The folded in 1970 but Clarke continued his activism. He is currently the Vice President of the PEP. He was instrumental in the start of African Liberation Day and was involved in Caribbean Political movements such as the New Jewel Movement in Grenada, the National Joint Action Committee of Trinidad headed by Geddes Granger, the Working Peoples Alliance of Guyana headed by the late Walter Rodney.

A co-founder of the Pan African Movement in Barbados , he was presented with the Clement Payne Award by the Clement Payment Movement in 2002.
