In an age where economic systems and entire societies are
being shaped more and more by technological factors, the BLP
will implement its science and technology plan.
We
will:
- Commit
1.5% of GDP to research and development in Science and Technology.
- Re-fashion
the National Council for Science and Technology to make
it the premier national institution in the area of Science
and Technology conducting research in a number of areas
critical to national development, including renewable energy
sources; genetic improvement of crops and farm animals and
efficient use of water resources and the conversion of sea
water to fresh water.
- Encourage
study and research in science and technology;
- Enact
legislation to give greater certainty to Science and Technology
activities.
- Fund
research in Information and Communications Technology at
institutions such as the Community College (University College
of Barbados).
