(CANA NEWS) – Civil and religious organisations will stage a “silent march” here later on Tuesday to protest the passage of legislation providing an amnesty to several people, including President Desi Bouterse implicated in the December 1982 murders in Suriname.
Parliament last Wednesday night approved the controversial legislation providing the amnesty for people accused of human rights violations committed during Bouterse’s two previous stints in power, between 1980 and 1991. Continue reading

(PORT OF SPAIN, CMC) – The Caribbean Court of Justice on Thursday ruled against Suriname for failing to impose a tax on non-CARICOM flour in order to protect a Trinidadian firm, in Paramaribo’s first case before the court in its jurisdiction over Caribbean Community trade disputes.
