BELMOPAN, Belize, 25 March 2014 (CMC) – Opposition Leader Francis Fonseca led the condemnation of the 2014 national budget that Prime Minister Dean Barrow presented to Parliament more than two weeks ago, describing the fiscal package as “a noodles budget”.
Prime Minister Barrow had presented a BZ$934.3 million tax free budget noting that apart from the fact there would be no new taxes, there would also be no overall spending cuts. Continue reading
BELMOPAN, Belize, 8 March 2014 (CMC) – Prime Minister Dean Barrow has presented a BD$1.9 billion (One Belize dollar =US$0.50 cents) budget to Parliament telling Belizeans that the outlook for 2014 is one “full of promise”.
But as he delivered the fiscal package on Friday, hundreds of teachers were demonstrating nearby for higher wages but Barrow insisted the offer to the members of the Belize National Teachers Union (BTNU) by his administration was “fair and generous and the best it can responsibly do”.
WASHINGTON, 25 January 2014 (CMC) – Belize and Guatemala have signed an agreement aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between as they seek to end a border dispute going back to several decades.

According to unofficial tallies, the UDP has 17 seats, the opposition People’s United Party (PUP) 14, according to Chief Elections Officer Josephine Tamai.
The voting “went smoothly in most areas,” Tamai said, with a turnout of approximately 73.11 percent, according to official results.
(BELMOPAN, Belize, CMC) – Belizeans are voting for a new government in a general election on Wednesday that is virtually a straight fight between the ruling United Democratic Party (UDP) and the main opposition People’s United Party (PUP).

The Organization of American States has signed an agreement with Belize to monitor the country’s elections March 7, according to OAS Secretary General Jose Miguel Insulza.
