My Fellow Belizeans,

From time immemorial, each New Year brings with it a rekindling of hope and a renewal of optimism. For Belize in 2013, there will be a very early realization of this promise of brighter prospects. Our national reset will receive an immediate stimulus by the signing, in the first part of January, of a legal agreement that will resolve once and for all the crippling commercial debt burden that has threatened to turn Belize into an economic basket case. Belize’s UDP Government Wins 2012 General Election

BELIZE CITY – Belize’s governing United Democratic Party (UDP) has won a narrow election victory, local media report.

According to unofficial tallies, the UDP has 17 seats, the opposition People’s United Party (PUP) 14, according to Chief Elections Officer Josephine Tamai.

The voting “went smoothly in most areas,” Tamai said, with a turnout of approximately 73.11 percent, according to official results.

Voters Choosing New Government In Belize

(BELMOPAN, Belize, CMC) – Belizeans are voting for a new government in a general election on Wednesday that is virtually a straight fight between the ruling United Democratic Party (UDP) and the main opposition People’s United Party (PUP).

The general election is being held simultaneously with the Municipal elections and the Elections and Boundaries Department (EBD) said it is prepared to conduct both polls. The last double election was held here in 2003. Continue reading
