BRIDGETOWN, Barbados – Fellow Barbadians,

It is that time of the year again when we pause to reflect on our independence. This year we celebrate 45 years of nationhood. Peculiar to this year’s celebration is that it comes a mere 42 days before the 360th anniversary of the signing of the Charter of Barbados in 1652. The signing of that Charter climaxed our first attempt to declare ourselves independent only 25 years after the English had settled this island.

Education Minister Takes Stance on Crime in Schools

St. John’s Antigua- Wednesday November 16, 2011 -Education Minister Dr. Jacqui Quinn-Leandro has sent a stern warning to students that a zero tolerance policy to anti-social behaviour in schools has been adopted.

Speaking in the House of Representatives on Wednesday, following the expulsion this week of eight students from the Ottos Comprehensive School, implicated in two incidents, Quinn-Leandro in defending the expulsions said the zero tolerance approach by her ministry is aimed at students who display deviant conduct at any of the public secondary institutions.

Antiguan Students Expelled Following Cutlass Brawl

St. John’s Antigua – Tuesday 15 November, 2011 – Six students have been expelled from a secondary school in Antigua following a cutlass fight on 4 November.

Education officials handed down the decision on Tuesday after meeting with the group of boys who are implicated in the incident and their parents.

Letters outlining the ministry’s position to bar attending public schools in Antigua and Barbuda were distributed to parents.
