
Justice Elliott Belgrave, Governor General Elect of Barbados
Bridgetown, Barbados (NATION NEWS) – Prime Minister Freundel Stuart has announced that Justice Elliott Belgrave will be conferred Knight of St Andrew and elevated to the position of Governor General of Barbados.
Stuart said the installation will take place in the Senate Chamber on June 1.
The Prime Minister also noted that he would be appointing someone to act as Governor General in Belgrave’s place in the meantime so that he can prepare for his appointment.
The announcement was made this afternoon in the House of Assembly.
Biography – H.E. Sir Elliott Fitzroy Belgrave, CHB, KA, QC
Born on 16 March 1931, Belgrave is a graduate of the universities of Cambridge (MA) and London (LLB). He is a former Director of Public Prosecutions in Barbados, and served as Judge of the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal of Barbados. He is a Queen’s Counsel and was awarded the Companion of Honour of Barbados for his contribution to the legal system in Barbados.
Mr. Belgrave has acted previously as Head of State on a number of occasions.
