Candidate's Perspective:
My life can be described as one of hard-work, dedication and volunteerism to uplift my people, community and country. I attended the Castle Bruce Primary School and the Technical Wing of the Dominica Grammar School as a child, then went on to obtain my Bachelor’s degree in Architectural Technology at the New York Institute of Technology and a Master’s Degree in Urban and Rural Planning from the Technical University of Nova Scotia.
After completing my studies, I began working with the government of Dominica as a Senior Physical Planner in the Planning and Development Control Division. After many years I launched two of my own enterprises – Baptiste and Associates Ltd, and Sunrise Farm Cottages. These firms currently employ nineteen people from communities across Dominica.
Over the years, we have successfully undertaken projects such as the Castle Bruce Estate Land Bank and Agricultural Cooperative to bring idle irrigated agricultural lands at Castle Bruce Estate into productive use; the Eastern District Sports Complex to develop lands reserved for recreation at Castle Bruce Estate into a multi-sports complex; and the St David’s Bay Beach and River Park to develop the community tourism potential of the Castle Bruce beach.
Baptiste and Associates were also instrumental in the development of the Tronto Di Paix Resource Center to facilitate empowerment of residents; the Good Hope Recreational Park to provide sporting and community entertainment facilities for the people of Good Hope; the St. David Trawler Fleet to further commercialize the local fishing industry at San Sauviere; the Petite Soufriere Recreational Park to provide sporting and community entertainment facilities for the people of Petite Soufriere; and the Community land stabilization programme to reduce risk of landslides, mud slides and soil erosion in Good Hope and Petite Soufriere in particular.
I am proud to be one of the founding members of the Castle Bruce Action Movement; a member of the Castle Bruce Cooperative Credit Union Board of Directors; the Dominica Cooperative Credit Union League; a member of the Dominica Jaycees and twice President of the Dominica Lions Club.
Serving as minister of parliament for the Castle Bruce constituency will continue my legacy of spearheading community development projects, creating jobs, and investing in the potential of our people. The people of Castle Bruce are demanding change, and I am proud to lead them on this journey. |
