Senator George Wilbert Prime has been the champion of the rights of the people of Carriacou and Petite Martinique for over two decades. As a result, he has developed a passion for ensuring that no one is left out in the movement for national development throughout Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique.
During the last 12 years he has seen many cases of neglect and victimization. In consulting regularly with the people of his constituency, he has noted their concerns over:
- The need for decentralization and local government to address local issues
- The lack of an economic base to create wealth and employment
- The high levels of unemployment, particularly among the youth
As Deputy Political Leader of the National Democratic Congress, he knows that similar problems affect the whole nation. He is therefore anxious to see the NDC assume power and introduce its policies and programmes for giving all citizens access to relevant education and training for decent jobs. George Prime believes that a vibrant economic base is necessary for the development of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique.
George Prime is well equipped to take a leadership role in national development. Having received his secondary education at Presentation College, he studied Economics and Law at Birmingham and London Universities, and the University of the West Indies. He has served in the past as an Economic Advisor and a Magistrate, and now works as a Barrister-at-Law. He has given sterling service to his country as an informed and outspoken Senator.
George Prime interacts regularly with ordinary people in his many sporting activities that include cricket, football and swimming. As a keen farmer and a supporter of the co-operative movement, he appreciates how important agriculture is to a significant section of the society.
George Prime believes that his nation can do better. All that is required is good governance, with the emphasis on honesty, transparency, inclusion, accountability, efficiency and the rule of law. The present leadership of the NDC is fully committed to these principles.
George is the father of two children. His main ambition is to help create a better country for their generation.
