Mr. Boatswain received his primary education at the Chantimelle R.C. School and St. Patrick’s Anglican School and is a graduate of McDonald College (1969) and the Grenada Boys Secondary School (1971). He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics (1976) and a Masters Degree in Economics (1977) from the University of Long Island, New York. In 1977 he was awarded a Doctoral Fellowship from the University of Toronto, Canada to pursue a Doctorate in Economics. Mr. Boatswain is also an avid sportsman having represented his alma mater Mc Donald College at Football, Cricket and Athletics.

Mr. Boatswain taught firstly at the McDonald College and then at the St. John’s Christian Secondary School before joining the Public Service. In the Public Service Sector he served as Permanent Secretary, Deputy Director General and Chief Economic Planner in the Ministry of Finance. He later served as General Manager of the Grenada Industrial Development Corporation.

Mr. Boatswain also served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Marketing and National Importing Board, Grenada Ports Authority, Land Development Control Authority, and was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Grenada Board of Tourism, Grenada Banana Cooperative Society, Grenada Bureau of Standards and the Grenada Chamber of Industry and Commerce and the Grenada Development Bank. He was also involved in the private sector at the level of Company Director.

In 1998 he was elected as Chairman of the St. Patrick’s West Constituency Branch of the New National Party (NNP). In January 1999 Mr. Boatswain formally entered front line politics and duly won the Constituency of St. Patrick’s West, becoming a member of the House of Representatives. He was appointed Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office responsible for Finance in January 1999. In November 1999 he was appointed Minister of Finance, Trade, Industry and Planning, In November 2003 he was re-elected as a Member of Parliament having won the St. Patrick West seat.

In 2007 he was appointed Minister for Economic Development and planning, Trade and Industry following a Cabinet reshuffle. Mr. Boatswain has traveled extensively representing Grenada at the meetings of the World Bank, IMF, Commonwealth Secretariat, the Caribbean Development Bank and many other agencies and institutions.

Mr. Boatswain has always maintained a close link to the people of his Constituency of St. Patrick’s West. His concern for his fellow man is exhibited in both his interaction with people at the community and national level as well as in his prudent economic decisions, which are geared towards ensuring sustainable development and continued prosperity for the people of Grenada, Carriacou and Petit Martinique.

Mr. Anthony Boatswain has served his nation and his constituency with the highest levels of competence and dedication. On the basis of his natural concern for his fellow man and his national and international training and experience, Mr. Boatswain qualifies for your vote as your Candidate for the St. Patrick’s West Constituency.
