Devon Rachae was born in the village of Pomme Rose St. David’s where he attended the St. Joseph’s R.C. School. He was always known to be a very disciplined and committed student and even from such a young age emerged as a leader among his peers.
He went on to attend the St. David’s Catholic Secondary School where he was involved in several extra curricular activities including his school choir, public speaking and debating club, Young leaders, Student council, sports captain of his house, and Head prefect. Devon is well known for standing out among his peers as a leader and an example. He then went on to the T. A. Marryshow community College when he studied accounting, economics, and sociology.
During his time in TAMCC Devon’s leadership quality again sufficed where he was elected President of the TAMCC student council. During his time at TAMCC he gave dedicated service as a member of the college’s management council, disciplinary committee, debating club, steel pan orchestra and sports captain. After completing his studies at TAMCC he was employed at the Department of Youth Development for two years and went on to teach at the Westerhall Secondary School, he then returned to the Department of Youth Development where he was employed as a Youth officer having responsibility for several programmes including the Department’s HIV/ AIDS programme and Youth rep. on the National AIDS council. While being involved in so much Devon saw the need to give back to his Parish. He did so with distinction serving as President of the St. David’s Parish Youth Council (the organization responsible for all youth groups in St. David’s) for the past five years, Chairperson of the Apres Toute Development Committee, Youth rep. on the Recovery Council (an NGO established after Hurricane to bring relief to farmers and constituents of St. David’s in the form of food, seeds and other support). Devon also served in several National organizations including 1st Vice President of the National Youth Council for the past three (3) years and Director for Youth activities of the Optimist Club.
Devon is well known regionally and has brought tremendous benefits to Grenada especially to the constituency of St. David’s through his regional contacts. He has represented Grenada since the age of seventeen in various capacities and has been selected on many occasions to speak on Youth related issues in the context of the regional integration. In 2003 Mr. Rachae served as Prime Minister of the Commonwealth Youth Parliament and Prime Minister of Grenada’s Youth parliament in 2005 where he was awarded most outstanding Youth Parliamentarian. In 2003 Mr. Rachae was appointed Youth ambassador for world peace by the Religious Youth Service and later that year he was appointed an International Ambassador for Peace by the Universal Peace Foundation. M. Rachae have been serving as Grenada’s Youth Ambassador to CARICOM for the past three years and continues to be committed to National and regional Development. Notwithstanding his busy schedule Devon finds time to spend on his small farm on a daily basis because he has a special passion for Agriculture.
Devon Rachae believes in putting God first in all things and has been very involved in various activities of the church. Although being part of the Catholic Faith in his earlier years Mr. Rachae has felowshiped at the Faith Pentecostal Church in Pomme Rose and is now a member of the Apres Toute Penetecostal lighthouse. In 2007 Mr. Rachae completed an associate of the Arts degree in theology.
It is undisputed that Devon Rachae is has always been committed to development and has spearheaded several projects as a Youth including negotiating for some $150, 000.00 on behalf of the community of Corinth to undertake the reconstruction and expansion project of the Corinth Community Center. Mr. Rachae has a passion for keeping the culture of St. David’s alive and have fought strongly to ensure that the Corinthians Steel Orchestra (the only Steel pan group in David’s has a home in Corinth). Having lived in Corinth in the pass he has worked closely with the community especially after the passage of Hurricane Ivan. Mr. Rachae has a true love and passion for people and showed that after Hurricanes Ivan and Emily by sourcing food items, clothing and toys which was distributed to some 1500 families throughout St. David’s.
Devon is undoubtedly a son of the soil and a Youth that St. David’s should be proud of. He is the first candidate produced by both St. Joseph’s R.C. School and St. David’s Catholic Secondary School. Something that past and present student and teachers should be proud that their institutions have produced a man for the people. Devon has always been proud of his very humble upbringing and is known as a home boy in the villages of Pomme Rose, Corinth and Apres Toute where he lived over the years.
His involvement in politics started when was sixteen (16) becoming a member of the St. David’s NNP youth arm and serving as the 2003 Youth campaign organizer for the constituency of St. David’s. He was later elected Public Relations officer of the St. David’s NNP branch executive committee and at the parties last convention was the youngest member elected on the New National Party’s national executive. Devon has always been committed to his party and constituency and always has the willingness to take on any challenge and responsibility in ensuring the St. David’s gets its fear share. Devon holds three P’s dearly People, Personality and Progress. Devon’s political ideology has always been that every individual should benefit equally regardless of socio-economic background, race, religion or political affiliation. His favorite political court has always been that one should be good to the people up the ladder for it’s the same people you meet on the way down.
