As early as ten years Emmalin demonstrated her willingness to serve and her ability to lead. She was very involved with extra curricular activities at school, at church and in the community. Among the many things she was involved with was the Girl Guide movement, the Red Cross, the Catholic Youth Movement, Debating Club and village youth groups among other. During this time she served as president/leader of most of the organizations including her schools student council. She also became head prefect of St. Andrew’s Anglican Secondary School during her 5th year at the institution.

Senator Pierre served as a teacher for eight (8) years during which she became even more involved in youth work. She continued to play a leading role in many youth initiatives such as the National Youth Council; she also hosted two youth radio programmes and is also the current host of the popular TV programme – Youth Vibes.

She did not only represent young people at the local level but at the regional and international levels. Some of the activities in which she has represented Grenada regionally/internationally include the 2000 Youth Parliament; she also served as Vice President of the Regional Youth Forum of the Commonwealth Youth Programme for two terms. In 2003 she was selected by the commonwealth Secretariat to represent the Caribbean as part of the observer mission, which monitored Nigeria’s Elections. She also formed part of a delegation of Caribbean Youth who attended the Youth Enterprise Development Forum in Australia and the Youth in Politics conference held in England.

Among the awards received for outstanding work is the National 4H leader of the year award in 1996, most outstanding employee in the Department of Youth – 2000 Public Service Emulation Service. She was also awarded most outstanding Leo President from over 60 presidents in over 14 countries in the region. That same year she also won the clubs Leo of the Year award. She was then transferred to the Leo Club of St. George’s and again captured the regional award at a higher level. In 2006 she was also awarded a plague of honour by the New York City Council on behalf the Grenada New York Women’s Organization for outstanding work in the area of Youth Development. She also received recognition from other local organizations and institutions. She was recognized for outstanding work in the region by a regional youth organization based in Guyana and other individual and organizations regionally and internationally.

Senator Pierre has been married for 13 years and has two sons. She is known throughout the island for her passion for youth development and for young people and is a motivator to other young people. Senator Pierre has tremendous experience in the area of youth work and leadership. She has worked closely with the Commonwealth Youth programme and holds a diploma in Youth Work. Due to her interest in this field she has never stopped pursuing the degree in Social Work and Human Resource Management.

She is the current Minister responsible for Youth Development in the Prime Minister’s Office and represents young people in the Upper House of Parliament. She was appointed a Member of Parliament at the age of 28.
