Fitzroy F. A. Bedeau was born on the 29th of august 1944 to Agnes Bedeau and Althon Boyke of Gouyave and attended the St. John’s Anglican School. Upon leaving school in 1960, he joined the firm of L. A. Purcell and worked there as a salesman until 1967. In 1967 Mr. Bedeau joined the Royal Grenada Police Force and worked in the area of operation Policing. Moving up in the ranks, in 1968 – 1976 he was assigned to the Criminal Investigations Department and then again from 1978 -1981. From 1981 – 1982 he served as Superintendent in charge of the Western Division, with a second period in that position from 1983-1984.
In 1982 – 1983 he was superintendent in charge of the Criminal investigation Department and from 1984 to 1985, served as Superintendent in charge of the central division. By 1985 Fitzroy was the Assistant Commissioner of Police and also the deputy Commissioner until 1988. The next seven (7) years were spent as Security Manager with Geest Industries. Fitzroy’s love of policing saw him returning to the Force in 1995 as Deputy Commissioner of Police and later served as Commissioner of Police from 1998 to 2005. In 2006 to present he serves as Government Security Advisor.
During his years in the Police Force, Fitzroy attended several seminars and courses including ‘Anti-Terrorism Assistance Training’; ‘Search and rescue’; and ‘Overseas Command’; held in countries such as the United kingdom, The United States of America, Barbados and Cuba.
Fitzroy also received several commendations and awards: Most Outstanding Divisional Officer (1980 – 1983); Queens’ Police Medal (Q. P. M., June 2000); Commissioners Commendation and Judges Commendation. Mr. Bedeau is passionate about his sailing and fishing, however; he enjoys listening to classical music, reading and meeting new people. He plays billiards and dominoes as well as cricket and football.
Fitzroy has spent the grater part of his life serving and protecting our Nation. He has distinguished himself both at home and abroad. Today, he stands ready to continue to serve his country and his people in whatever capacity he will be called upon to perform.
