Yolande Bain-Horsford’s career culminated in the Government Service on the 24th November, 2003 after having contested and won the Seat of the Parliament of Grenada for the St. Andrew’s Southwest Constituency and being elected as a Member of Parliament and as a Cabinet Member with the portfolio of Minister of Housing, Social Services, Gender & Family Affairs.
Prior to being elected into the House of Parliament, she served the Government of Grenada as a Government Senator and Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Tourism, Civil Aviation, NIS, Culture and Gender & Family Affairs, with specific responsibility for Gender & Family Affairs.
During the period 1998 – 2000 she was the Director for Women’s Affairs with responsibility for the education and empowerment of women in rural districts across the nation and charting the way forward for equity, justice and the protection of women in general. Her dedication to the welfare of the disadvantaged in the society is evident in her involvement in a number of service organizations where she has held executive positions.
Over the last ten years, her career path afforded her the invaluable experience as Minister, Director of Gender and Family Affairs, Director of Women’s Affairs, Project Manager of the Program - Institutional Strengthening (a United Nations Program to Promote Good Governance), and Eco-Tourism to develop plans and policies which have successfully impacted on the lives of the needy.
Yolande Bain-Horsford was born in the Parish of St. Andrew, Grenada. She attended the St. Joseph Convent High School, Grenville, St. Lawrence University of Applied Arts and Technology in Ontario, Canada and the University of the West Indies, Mona, Jamaica, where she majored in Gender Policy and Planning.
