Glenroy Mervin Blanchette was born in Newtown. He obtained his early education at Ms. Richardson’s Pre-School and the Newtown Primary School. He then moved on to the Basseterre Junior and Senior High Schools and later attended the St. Kitts Teachers’ Training College. He earned further tertiary education at the University of the West Indies (UWI, Mona) and the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom.
His impressive academic qualification includes a UWI Trained Teacher’s Certificate in Education, a BA in Geography from the UWI and a Masters Degree in Risk, Crisis and Disaster Management from the University of Leicester.
Glenroy has had a distinguished career in education, one spanning some 18 years to include teaching at the Cayon Primary School, Cayon High School, the Basseterre High School and the Washington Archibald High School. He served as Head of the Geography Department at the Cayon and Washington Archibald High Schools and was a part-time lecturer at the CFB College. He also did a stint in the manufacturing industry having served as Lab Assistant at the St. Kitts Sugar Manufacturing Corporation (SSMC).
Now married with two children he is the Assistant Managing Director of the Democrat Newspaper.
Glenroy also has an impressive record of community service. He is a former Treasurer of the Manchester Fun Club and former Vice President of the Newtown Sports Club. He also had a long and established tenure as Manager and Coach of the Ghetto Roots Basketball Club.
Throughout his life, Glenroy has made invaluable contributions to his community in the spheres of education, culture and sports. His commitment to leadership and his involvement in elective politics flow from a genuine desire to make a meaningful contribution to the improvement of the quality of life for all the people of St. Kitts and Nevis.
His Personal Motto is “knowledge is power, so get knowledge; and in your getting, get wisdom and understanding.”
