Five political parties contested the last General Elections in 2004. Three of them contested the St. Kitts constituencies – the St. Kitts/Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) established in 1932, the Peoples Action Movement (PAM) established in 1965 and the United National Empowerment
Party (UNEP) established in May 2004. There was one independent candidate. Two parties contested the Nevis constituencies – the Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM) established in 1987 and the Nevis Reformation Party (NRP) established in 1970.
