On 7 October 2004, Prime Minister Denzil Douglas announced that 25 October 2004 would be the date for general elections, six months earlier than they would have been due. There were a total of 38,836 registered electors.
A total of 30 candidates were nominated to contest the General Elections in the 11 constituencies: In St. Kitts: People's Action Movement (PAM) - 8; St. Kitts Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) - 8; United National Empowerment Party (UNEP) - 7; Independent - 1. In Nevis: Concerned Citizens' Movement (CCM) - 3; Nevis Reformation Party (NRP) – 3.
At the end of the count, the results were as follows: In St. Kitts: People's Action Movement (PAM) - 1; St. Kitts Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) - 7. In Nevis: Concerned Citizen's Movement (CCM) - 2; Nevis Reformation Party (NRP) – 1.
The SKNLP was returned to office, having won seven of the eight seats in St. Kitts. The opposition PAM won the eight seat on St. Kitts. In Nevis, the three seats were again shared by the CCM (2) and the NRP (1). |
