Edison A. Baird
Former Member of Parliament of Anguilla
Edison A. Baird is an Anguillian politician and former minister and member of the House of Assembly.
Career
Baird is a veteran politician. He first contested the 1989 general election, losing to former Chief Minister Emile Gumbs.
In 1994, he won the District 5 Road North seat on a Anguilla Democratic Party (ADP) ticket. He retained the seat in four subsequent elections - 1999 (ADP), 2000 (Independent), 2005 (Anguilla Strategic Alliance), 2010 (Anguilla United Movement).
After the AUM's election victory in 2010, Chief Minister Hubert Hughes announced Baird as Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Social Development, Health, Sports, and Education. However, in June 2013 Hughes advised Governor Alistair Harrison to revoke Baird's appointment as Minister.
In April 2015, after serving in the House of Assembly for 21 consecutive years, Baird indicated he would not seek re-election and would be effectively quitting elective politics.
