Steve Decourcey Blackett
Former Cabinet Minister, Barbados

Steve Decourcey Blackett is a Barbadian politician and Cabinet Minister.

Early life and education

Steve Decourcey Blackett was born at Lonesome Hill in St. Peter and was raised by his paternal grandmother at Hill Road, Bank Hall, St. Michael from age six months.  He was educated at Ms. Seales Private School, Wesley Hall Primary, and St. Leonard's School (1967-1971).  At the Barbados Institute of Management and Productivity (1995-1999) he gained qualifications in Sales, Marketing and Personnel Management.

Career

Blackett holds responsibility for the Ministry of Social Care, Constituency Empowerment and Community Development. He previously held the portfolio of Community Development and Culture.

He is a former news anchor at the Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation and Broadcaster at STARCOM Network. Prior to his appointment as Minister of Culture, he worked as a Senior Accounts Executive at Moore Paragon Limited.

Blackett was unsuccessful in his bid to retain in seat in the 24 May 2018 General Election.

Personal life

Blackett is married and is the father of three sons.

He is a Past President of the Kiwanis Club of Bridgetown and lists among his hobbies reading and listening to music.
