Hon. Cardigan Adolphus Connor
Cardigan Connor is an Anguillian politician and current member of the House of Assembly. He is also a former professional cricketer.
Early life and education
Connor attended the West End Primary and The Valley Secondary school. He furthered his education at Langley College in England.
Career
A most outstanding sports ambassador for Anguilla based on his outstanding professional cricket career playing for Hampshire County Cricket Club. Deeply engaged in using sports as a powerful vehicle to develop Anguilla’s youth.
He made his cricket first class debut on 30 May 1984 (Anguilla Day) with Hampshire ccc, where he played for 15 years.
Connor took more than 1,000 wickets in all competitions for Hampshire after being unearthed by talent-spotting Charlie Knott playing for Buckinghamshire. Never has a more popular player appeared for the county. It was often said that Connor in the early part of his career tried to compete for pace with his new-ball partner, Malcolm Marshall. It was only after Marshall retired that Connor's true worth became clear and it was no coincidence that his career-best 9 for 38 came at the age of 35.
After retiring from cricket Connor returned to Anguilla, where he works as a hotel masseur.
Connor won the District 7 West End seat in his first time at the polls on an Anguilla United Front ticket in the 22 April 2015 election. Connor received 389 votes (55.02%) over Kristy Richardson of the Anguilla United Movement who received 313 votes (44.27%).
Personal life
Connor lives in West End. He enjoys playing golf and boat racing.
