Opposition Senator in St. Vincent and the Grenadines

Julian Ferdinand is a politician from St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and is currently an opposition senator in the House of Assembly.

Early life and education

He holds a Bachelor's of Science in Economics and Management Program from the Dr. Ferdinand received initial training in education before embarking on a career in business management.  He has a teachers’ training certificate from the University of the West Indies, a Diploma in Special Education from the University of Birmingham in England, and a certificate in Residential Social Work from the Glasspole Child Care Training Centre in Jamaica.  He obtained his Master’s in Business Administration (Distinction) from the University of the West Indies, and holds a Doctorate in Business Administration from the University of Bradford (England).


Dr. Julian (Jules) Ferdinand is a business consultant, lecturer, and author.  He has conducted management and leadership training in several companies and organizations throughout the Eastern Caribbean. He lectures in Corporate Turnaround, Strategic Management, Multinational Strategy, and the Global Strategy and Innovation courses in the Masters in Business Administration (IMBA) programmes at the Arthur Lok Jack Graduate School of Business (UWI, Trinidad & Tobago).

He also teaches the Strategic Planning course in the Executive Masters in Business Administration (EMBA) programme at the Cave Hill School of Business (UWI, Barbados).  In addition, he has conducted the Strategy Dynamics course in the Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) programmes at both business schools.

Dr. Ferdinand is the Chancellor’s Nominee of the Campus Council of the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies and a member of that Council’s Finance and General Purposes Committee. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of RBTT Bank Caribbean Limited, the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States Education Reform Commission, and the Foundation for the Development of Caribbean Children (FDCC).

He is the former Chief Executive Officer of East Caribbean Group of Companies and the former Chairman of the OECS Distribution and Transportation Company Limited (ODTC). He is a Past Chairman of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Development Bank, and a Past President of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Chamber of Industry and Commerce and the Rotary Club of St. Vincent.  He also served as Honorary Consul for Spain to St. Vincent and the Grenadines for approximately 14 years and received the Merito Civil Cruz (Civil Order Cross) from Spain’s King Juan Carlos for outstanding service to the government and people of Spain in his capacity as Honorary Consul.

Dr. Ferdinand is the author of the motivational book, Be Inspired (ISBN #978-976-8204-34-9), and has a weekly column in The Vincentian newspaper.  He has written extensively on the need to cultivate habits that retain a focus on constantly improving personal performances.

Dr. Ferdinand unsuccessfully contested the West St. George seat in the 2015 general election as a candidate for the New Democratic Party (NDP), losing to Cecil McKie of the Unity Labour Party (ULP). He was later appointed as an Opposition Senator in the House of Assembly.
