George Spencer Griffith
Former Election Candidate, Barbados
George Griffith is a Barbadian social worker, politician, and former election candidate.
Early life and education
George Spencer Griffith was born on 9 January 1949 in Barbados. He was educated at St. Catherine's Mixed School, Barbados School of Nursing, Barbados Technical Institute, University of the West Indies, and New York University (USA).
Griffith is the former Executive Director of the Barbados Family Planning Association. He has also served as Consul General for Barbados at New York.
He is a former Chairman of National HIV/Aids Prevention Committee, former Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, and former Member of the Task Force on Homelessness.
In 2008, Griffith unsuccesfully contested the St. Philip North seat as a candidate for the Barbados Labour Party (BLP), losing to incumbent Michael Lashley of the Democratic Labour Party (DLP).
Griffith is a former President of St. Catherine's Social & Sports Club; and Founder Member & Former President of Clarke's Hill Progressive League/Clarke's Hill Social & Sports Club. He is also a Lay Reader at St. Catherine's Anglican Church.
