E. Robelto Hector is a former Cabinet Minister in the Nevis Island Administration.
Early life and education
E. Robelto Hector was born on 19 December 1967 in Charlestown, Nevis. He is a graduate of The Hugh Wooding Law School and was called to the St. Kitts-Nevis Bar in 2004. Hector completed a Bbachelor of Law (LLB) degree from University of the West Indies, Cave Hill; and a BSC in Agriculture from the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine. He also attended the Eastern Caribbean Institute of Agriculture (ECIAF) Trinidad and Tobago.
Apart from maintaining an active practice he serves as a parliamentarian in the Nevis Island Assembly. He is presently an elected member of the Opposition benches.
He was first elected in 2006 on a Nevis reformation Party (NRP) ticket. In that same year he was appointed Minister of Communications, Works and Public Utilities, Posts, Physical Planning, Natural Resource and Environment, Agriculture, Lands, Housing, Co-operatives and Fisheries. This portfolio he held until January 2013. 2014 to 2015 he served as advisor to the Federal Minister of Labour.
Hector is former teacher at the Tertiary, Secondary and Primary school level.
He unsuccessfuly contested the Nevis#9 seat in the 2015 Federal election, losing to Mark Brantley of the Concerned Citzins Movement (CCM).
HEctor was Treasurer of the Nevis Branch of the St. Kitts-Nevis Red Cross Society; Financial Comptroller of the Nevis Culturama Committee; Soccer coach at the Manor School St, Croix, USVI; and President of the University of the West Indies St. Augustine Campus Debating Society. He has also participated in the Inter-Collegiate Debating Competition, Nassau Bahamas, The University of The Virgin Islands and World Debate, Princeton University , New Jersey. He is a Past President of the Nevis Association of Agricultural Workers in Extension (NAAWE); Founding member of S.P.A.C.E. ( St. Paul’s Area Competitive Eagles); and Founding member of the Nevis Symphonic Band. He was also a Boy Scout.
