Walter Clare Burton Hinds, CBE
Former Speaker of the House of Assembly of Barbados

Walter Clare Burton Hinds was a Barbadian poitician and a former Speaker of the House of Assembly of Barbados.

Early life and education

Walter Clare Burton Hinds was born in Barbados in 1920. He was educated at Boscobel Boys' School and Parry School. He held a Diploma in Journalism.

Career

Before entering the political arena, Hinds was a Journalist, a Newspaper Editor, and Proprietor of a Commercial Prlntery and Bookshop.

Hinds first unsuccessfully contested the St. James seat as an Independent Candidate in the 1966 General Election. In 1966, he was elected to the House of Assembly as the Junior Member for St. Peter on a Elected to Parliament as the representative for the constitutency of St. Peter on a Barbados Labour Party (BLP) ticket. He was re-elected in in 1971, 1976, and 1981 elections.

Hinds served as Speaker of the House of Assembly of Barbados from 1976 to his retirement from Parliament in June 1984.
