Sandra Husbands is a Barbadian businesswoman, politician and current Cabinet Minister.

Early life and education

Born on 27 February 1959, Cheryl Sandra Velda Husbands was educated at Girls Foundation, Queen’s College and the University of the West Indies (UWI), earning a Bachelor's degree in Sociology and Law, a Master's in International Trade Policy and an Executive Master's in Business Process Management. Additional training has included the areas of advanced leadership, facilitation training, training of trainers, Total Quality Management and techniques for enhancing adult learning. She also received UWI's first Spirit of CARICOM Award in the Masters in International Trade Policy programme.

Career

She has served for three consecutive terms as President of the Barbados Small Business Association (SBA); Chairman of the National Council on Substance Abuse; Chairman of SBA Enterprises Inc.; President of the Caribbean Association of Small and Medium Enterprises; was First Vice-President of the National Organisation of Women and First Vice-President of Caribbean Facilitators Network.

Husbands unsuccessfully contested the St. James South seat for the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) in the 2013 election. In her second attempt in the 2018 election, she unseated Commerce Minister Donville Inniss. She was appointed Minister in the Ministry of Foreign Trade in the Mia Mottley Administration.

Sandra is married to Wayne.
