Sir Edmund Hawkins Lake was a former Antiguan parliamentarian.
Early life and education
Edmund Hawkins Lake was born on 16 May 1912 in Antigua and Barbuda to Edmund H. Lake (Sr.) and Florence Drucila Lake.
Career
Lake was one of the early founders and pioneers of the Antigua Trades and Labour Union (ATLU).
He represented St. John's City South/Barbuda (1951 - 1960) and then St. John's City South (1960 - 1971) for the Antigua Labour Party.
He also served as the Minister of Trade and Production in the Vere Bird Administration.
After serving in parliament, Sir Edmund Lake became Antigua and Barbuda’s first resident Ambassador to the United States and Permanent Representative to the Organization of American States. He received his instrument of appointment shortly after my country gained its independence from Great Britain in November 1981, and he assumed his duties in Washington, D.C. in early 1982. He served for approximately 11 years at the OAS and made a sterling contribution to the political, economic, and social development of the peoples of the Americas. He served as Chair of the Permanent Council on two occasions.
Death
Sir Edmund Lake died on 16 November 2005, aged 93.
