Stanley W. Lowe, JP, OBE
Former Speaker of the Houe of Assembly of Bermuda
Stanley W. Lowe is a Bermudian politician and a former Speaker of the House of Assembly of Bermuda.
Early life and education
Stanley Lowe was born and raised in Southampton and was educated at Heron Bay School.
Lowe has served as MP for Southampton East continuously for over 30 years. Lowe, was elected Speaker of the House of Assembly, following the general election in November 1998, the first Progressive Labour Party member chosen as Speaker of the House. He is considered the "People M.P." Mr. Lowe's influence and head for fairness had earlier resulted in his election as Deputy Speaker in November 1995. As a member of the Panel of Chairmen, Mr. Lowe was frequently called upon to preside over important Assembly debates. Among the portfolios he has held, is that of Shadow Minister of Community and Cultural Affairs.
Lowe has been the Progressive Labour Party representative for Constituency 29 Southampton East continuously since 1968 and he holds the unique position of being respected by both sides of the House, for his knowledge of parliamentary procedure.
He takes a leading interest in the community's religious, cultural and sporting affairs. He is one of the pillars of the Southampton Rangers Sports which he joined at young age; he now possesses life membership.

He was awarded the Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE).
