Hon. Cecil O. McKie
Minister of Tourism, Sports, and Culture, St. Vincent and the Grenadines
Cecil O. McKie is a politician and current Cabinet Minister in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
Early life and education
Cecil O. McKie was born to Clive and Doris McKie in Arnos Vale. He was educated at Kingstown Primary and St. Vincent Grammar School. In his spare time, he enjoys sports, culture and the social life of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
Career
Professionally, he completed various certificate programmes in banking and a diploma in general insurance management. He served as a Branch Manager for Bequia, Canouan, Union Island and Halifax Street from 1980-2001. He then joined St. Hill Insurance Co. Ltd. where he worked until February 2010.
In Government, he has served as a ULP Senator and as Minister of State - Ministry of National Mobilization, Social Development, Gender Affairs, Non-Governmental Organizations Relations, Persons with Disabilities, Youth Affairs, and Sports.
In 2010, he won the West St. George seat for the Unity Labour Party. He retained his seat in the 2015 general election as was appointed Minister of Tourism, Sports, and Culture in the fourth Ralph Gonsalves Administration.
Personal life
McKie attends church at Gospel Hall in Fountain & Kingstown. He is an active member of the community. He served as President of the Arnos Vale Educational, Sports and Cultural Organization (AVESCO) and Rotary Clubs in Bequia and St. Vincent South, and was the President of the Insurance Association of SVG. He also served as a past executive member/vice president of the SVG Athletics Associations and the SVG Football Federation. In addition, he is a past President of the SVG Masters Cricket Committee.
