The Hon. Dewitt Halson Moultrie
Speaker of The House of Assembly, The Bahamas
Halson Moultrie is a Bahamian politician and the current Speaker of the House of Assembly.
Early life and education
Dewitt Halson Moultrie was born in Mathew Town Inagua, The Bahamas on October 18 1952 to Jeffery and Naomi (nee Farquason) Moultrie.
He began his early education at Inagua All Age School and The Government High School. He obtained a Certicate of Climatology from the Meteorological Ofce College Shineld Park United kingdom in 1978, an Associate of Arts Degree in computer Science from the College of the Bahamas in 1989, Bachelor of Law LLB from University of Wolverhampton, United Kingdom, 2006 and a Certicate of Legal Education from the Eugene Dupuch Law School Nassau Bahamas in 2009.
Career
Halson served as the Chief Meteorologist from 1970 to 1991 and later as a consultant to Tamarid International. He later joined Obie Ferguson & Co./Trade Union Congress as a Law student and Labour Consultant. He served as a Legal Executive with Sturrup, Thompson & Associates before forming his own rm Life Chambers in 2010. As a labour advocate, Mr Moultrie continues to enjoy amicable relationships with the National Congress of Trade Unions (NCTU) and with the Trade Union Congress (TUC) as Consultant.
Personal life
He is married to the former Kim Elexis Smith and the couple has one son Herschel.
An Anglican at birth and member of St Phillip’s Anglican Church, Matthew Town, Inagua, Mr Moultrie was ordained minister of the gospel at Bahamas Faith Ministries International, Nassau, Bahamas and now attends Overcoming Power Ministries International (OPMI).
