Hon. Alexandra Otway-Noel
Cabinet Minister, Grenada
Alexandra Otway-Noel is a Grenadian politician and current Cabinet Minister.
Early life and education
In 1972, Alexandra was born in Toronto, Canada to a well known Grenadian family William (Bill) and Carin Otway. Her father, Bill, was born and raised at Epping Forest Estate, Pedmontemps, St. Davids. The Otway family has extensive experience in the aeronautical and travel industry in Europe, Canada and the Caricom region.
Otway-Noel attended the St. Joseph's Convent up to 1990. She later returned to Canada where she pursued further studies in Advertising and Marketing and Tourism.
Career
Her foresight and skills in Tourism Development afforded her the opportunity to gain employment with a Canadian Tour Operator in the capacity of Sales Coordinator. She built and sustained her career by moving up the managerial where she gained the loyalty and respect of fellow employees.
During her lengthy and sustained career in the tourism and travel industry, in recognition of her skills, experience and abilities, she was afforded the opportunity to serve as a member of the Board of Directors of the Grenada Airports Authority (GAA). In addition to her invaluable contribution on the GAA, local tourism and travel stakeholders have always seen it beneficial to seek her ideas and suggestions on potential successful initiatives for advancing the industry in Grenada.
In spite of her commitment and contribution to the Grenada Tourism industry, Otway-Noel has found time and energy in supporting and directly working with many local charities in her constituency as well as encouraging the development and implementation of much self-help initiatives that are geared to empower local constituents. It must also be noted that following the unfortunate destruction of Hurricane Ivan, she played a critical role in harnessing and directing much needed medical and other resources which were very useful in Grenada's Rehabilitation efforts.
Apart from her well known skills in the travel and tourism industry, she continues to be very engaged in real estate construction as evidenced by her achievement in transforming many residences where her creative and artistic skills are demonstrated.
Following the NNP's election victory In February 2013, Alexandra Otway-Noel was appointed Minister of Tourism, Civil Aviation, and Culture in the Keith Mitchell Administration. In a minor reshiffle in March 2014, the Culture ministry was transferred to Senator Brenda Hood. In a further cabinet reshuffle in November 2014 Otway-Noel was appointed Minister of Implementation in the Prime Minister's Office.
Personal life
Alexandra is married to Trevor Noel, son of well known deceased obstetrician Dr. Desmond Noel and is the proud mother of an 8 year old daughter. Her husband's grandfather was former beloved Grenada politician, Franklyn Carlyle Noel.
In the 1 July 2016 Cabinet reshuffle,
Otway-Noel was appointed Minister in the Prime Minister's Office with responsibility for Waste Management and the Promotion of the citizenship by Investment Programme.
