The Hon. Peter Ricardo Phillips, MP

Peter Phillips is a Barbadian banker, politician and a current Cabinet Minister.

Early life and education

Peter Ricardo Phillips was born on 4 July 1963 and grew up in the quiet district of Pie Corner, in the constituency he now seeks to represent. Phillips attended St. Clement's Primary, Coleridge and Parry School, the Barbados Institute of Management and Productivity, Capitol Business Solutions and the Caribbean Training Institute.

Career

A banker by profession, Mr. Phillips has been actively involved in community services for over two decades. As the longest serving Chairperson to date of the St. Lucy Parish Independence Committee, he has led a team of dedicated persons who volunteered their services and successfully executed numerous projects in the constituency – HIV/AIDS Awareness, Health, the Environment, Energy Conservation and Heritage. Phillips has also partnered with the Kiwanis Club North for over ten years in providing meals for a number of persons within the constituency on a weekly basis.

Phillips successfully contested the St. Lucy seat for the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) in the 2018 general election, defeating Housing Minister Denis Lowe. He previously unsuccessfully contested the seat in the 2013 election.

On 27 May 2018, he was appointed Minister in the Ministry of Transport, Works, and Maintenance in the Mia Mottley Administration.

Personal life

He is an avid cricket fan and a committed member of Bennett’s Temple United Holy Church.
