Sir Francis Joseph "Frank" Savage, CMG, LVO, OBE, MBH, KCMG
Former Governor of Montserrat and the British Virgin Islands

Frank Savage is a former British diplomat and was Governor of Montserrat (1993 - 1997) and the British Virgin Islands (1992 - 2002).

Early life and education

Frank Savage was born on 9 February 1943 in the United Kingdom.

Career

Frank Savage joined the Diplomatic Service in 1966. He has held appointments in Cairo, Washington, Aden, Dusseldorf, Peking, Lagos and Montserrat as well as in FCO at various times. He was the Governor of Montserrat from 16 July 1993 to September 1997. He was appointed Governor of the British Virgin Islands on 3 July 1998 and demitted office in 2002.

Savage retired from the foreign service in 2003.

Honours and awards

Savage has been honoured four times by HM The Queen during his career. Savage was also made a Knight Commander of the Order of St Gregory by the Pope for services to the Catholic Communities in Montserrat and the British Virgin Islands.

His awards were as follows:

Commander of the Order of St Michael and St George (CMG) - awarded in 1996 for Services Overseas on behalf of HM Government and also the Montserrat Community during the Montserrat Volcanic Crisis.)

Lieutenant of the Royal Victorian Order (LVO) - awarded in 1986 for personal service to HM The Queen during the State Visit to China

Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) - awarded in 1989 for Services to the British Community in Nigeria).

The Queen’s Certificate and Montserrat Badge of Honour (MBH) - awarded in 1999 by HM The Queen on the recommendation of the Montserrat Honours Committee).

Knight Commander of the Order of St Gregory (KCMG) - aAwarded in 2002 by His Holiness The Pope on the recommendation of The Most Rev Donald Reece DD, Archbishop of Kingston, Jamaica, for services to the Catholic Communities in Montserrat and The British Virgin Islands in the period 1993-2002).
