Jerome Xavier Walcott is a Barbadian surgeon, politician, and current Senator.

Early life and education

Jerone Xavier Walcott was born on 2 April 1957 in Barbados. He was educated at St. Angela's Primary and the Lodge School, Barbados and leter graduated from the University of the West Indies (UWI) in 1982. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) of Edinburgh.

Career

Walcott was Member of Parliament for the constituency of Christ Church South from 2003 - 2008. Prior to which, he was Leader of Government Business in the Senate from 2001. Walcott also served as Minister of Health in the Owen Arthur Administration.

Currently Chairman of the Barbados Labour Party, he served as Assistant Secretary between 1995 and 1997, has been a member of the National Executive Council, (NEC), for years and has been active in several and diverse subcommittees.

Walcott was appoined an opposition senator in 2013.

Outside of politics, he has serves as a Consultant Surgeon at the QEH and Associate Lecturer and Examiner for Final Surgery Exams at the UWI.

His management skills have also been called on repeatedly in both public and private agencies, from school boards to the Barbados Family Planning Association and National Insurance Medical tribunal. He also served with distinction as Deputy Chairman of the Sanitation Service Authority, Chairman of the Transport Board and President of the Barbados Association of Medical Practitioners, (BAMP). Additionally, he remains a member of the Barbados Agricultural Society, (BAS), Barbados Cricket Association, (BCA) and the Barbados Cancer Society.

On 27 MAy 2018, Walcott was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade and Leader of Government Business in the Senate in the Mia Mottley Administration
