Pershing Albert Rock Waldron was a politician and former Speaker of the House of Assembly of Dominica.
Early life and education
Pershing Albert Rock Waldron was born on 4 April 1945 in Dominica. He attended the St. John’s School and later the St. Mary’s Academy.
Career
Waldron excelled in the field of banking, serving in senior positions at the Barclays Bank in Dominica, Antigua and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. He also served as Assistant Manager of Credit at the Antigua Commercial Bank and later Manager of the Antigua Commercial Bank Mortgage and Trust Company Ltd. Waldron also headed the TCI Bank in the Turks and Caicos Islands.
Waldron served as Speaker of the House of Assembly in Dominica from 4 January 1979 until his resignation on 20 June 1979. Following the 1980 general elections, he was appointed an Opposition Senator on 20 October 1980 until his resignation on 31 January 1981.
Personal life
He was married to wife Junie Waldron nee Walker and had five children, Gail, Kenn, Pershing Jr., Hudle and Sharon.
A devout Catholic, Waldron was ordained a Deacon of the Roman Catholic Church on 4 October 1996. He served the church in many capacities in Dominica, Antigua and the Turks and Caicos Islands. He was also an accomplished poultry and livestock farmer and an avid sportsman with a passion for cricket.
Death
Waldron died on 9 July 2019 in Dominica. He was 74. He was accorded an Official Funeral at the Portsmouth Roman Catholic Church on Tuesday, 6 August 2019. His body was laid to rest at Portsmouth Roman Catholic Cemetery.
