Joslyn Raphael 'Jos' Whiteman
Political Candidate, Grenada

Joslyn Raphael 'Jos' Whiteman is a Grenadian politician and former diplomat.

Early life

Joslyn Raphael 'Jos' Whiteman was born in the parish of St. David, Grenada

Career

Whiteman served two tours of duty as Grenada's High Commissioner to the United Kingdom - 2003 - 2005 and from 2013 - 2016.

He was also Grenada's first Ambassador to The People's Republic of China from 2005 - 2008. Prior to being posted to serve as a High Commissioner and Ambassador, Mr. Whiteman served as a Minister of Agriculture, Lands, Forestry & Fisheries;  Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation,: Minister of Information, and lastly as Minister of Implementation. 

Before his involvement in Government and Politics,  Mr. Whiteman  (who first travelled from Grenada to live in the United Kingdom in 1962) worked in London for many years in the insurance industry, serving as a branch Director for world renowned Insurance Company American Life, and winning many sales accolades, including International Salesman of the Year on several occasions.

In 1987, he was voted The United Kingdom Businessman of the Year by the Afro Caribbean Chamber of Industry and Commerce, a highly commended award that propelled him to the forefront of British business, before his timely return to Grenada and the world of politics, initially as General Secretary and eventually as Member of parliament and elder statesman in the diplomatic corps.

Whiteman is contesting the St. David seat as an Independent Candidate in the 2018 General Election.

Personal life

Whiteman is married to wife Lydia Whiteman (née Purcell), and is the father of four children, Paul Joslyn, Paula Sutton, Paulina Carr and Joslyn Paul Whiteman.
