James Maitland Wood, QC
Former Attorney General of Anguilla

James Maitland Wood is a former Attorney General of Anguilla.

Early life and education

Wood graduated from Aberystwyth University in Law in 1987.

Career

A British barrister, Wood was called to the Bar: UK 1989, St Lucia 2007. He practised at Queen's Bench Chambers 1991-92; and was the senior crown prosecutor CPS Birmingham from 1992-2000 (team leader 1998-2000); At Cornwall St Chambers (formerly 6 Fountain Court) he was tenant 2000-07, and door tenant from 2007.

Wood served in the Offices of Director of Public Prosecutions in St Lucia from 2007 to 2008; and was the Director of the Regional Law Revision Centre, Anguilla from 2008.

He specialises in Criminal Law with experience in areas such as: Fraud, money laundering, theft and other financial crime; Trading Standards; Police law; and Data Protection.

Jones formally took up his position as Attorney General of Anguilla on Monday, 11 August 2014, replacing Wilhelm Bourne.

Prior to his appointment, he held the office of Attorney General for Montserrat since 2008.

Wood's term of office ended in July 2014 and was he replaced by Rupert Jones.

Honours and awards

In 2013, Wood was appointed as a Queen’s Counsel (QC) by by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second. The Warrant of Appointment was presented to Mr. Wood by His Excellency the Governor, Alistair Harrison, on Friday, 18 January 2013.
