There are two major political parties in Saint Lucia: the Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) founded in 1950, and the United Workers Party (UWP) founded in 1964. Five parties will be contesting the 2011 General Elections - United Workers Party (UWP) led by Stephenson King; the main opposition St. Lucia Labour Party (SLP) led by Kenny Anthony; the Lucian Peoples Movement (LPM) led by Therold Prudent; the National Development Movement (NDM) of Ausbert d'Auvergne; and the Green Party represented by Andre de Caires.
