dot PROFILE

Senator Daniel Cummings has a highly distinguished academic background, including a General Technical Diploma from the University of Guyana and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of the West Indies. He journeyed thereafter to Yugoslavia where he obtained a Certificate in Water Resources Management.

Still with a thirst for knowledge Daniel went on to attain a Masters Degree in Civil Engineering and Environmental Science from the University of Oklahoma USA. In 1994 he attended the UWI Cave Hill campus where he qualified for a Masters of Business Administration.

Daniel has worked predominantly in the field of water resources engineering and waste management. His first assignment was as an Engineer for the Water and Sewerage Authority of Trinidad and Tobago and after one and one half years he joined the Central Water and Sewerage Authority of St. Vincent as a water engineer.
Under his leadership, the CWSA took responsibility for solid waste management, introducing sanitary land fills and collection island wide.

In 1987 he was elevated to General Manager of CWSA. He transformed the organization making it financially self-sustainable. He also introduced irrigation systems using gravity fed systems – providing irrigation for over 1,200 acres of farmland with some 800 more acres to benefit in the same way.

In addition to his career achievements, Daniel has professional affiliations with a number of noteworthy organizations including the SVG Association of Professional Engineers and the Caribbean Water and Waste Water Association (CWWA). He is a Past President of the Rotary Club of St. Vincent and the Grenadines and has been the recipient of the gold award for service from the CWWA. He also received the gold award from the FAO/UN for outstanding contribution to Water and Agriculture in 2002.
