The Democratic Labour Party is aware that a reliable transport service is necessary to national development.

We will:

  • Reduce license and other fees for public service vehicles.
  • Allow the duty free importation of spare parts for public service vehicles.
  • Review the operations of the Transport Board to ensure the most effective use of its fleet.
  • Streamline the fleet to avoid unnecessary inventories of spare parts.
  • Encourage the development of co-operatives in public transport.
  • Fully integrate public service vehicles into the national transportation system under no less favourable conditions as the Transport Board.
  • We will introduce aat a reduced cost a ticket system for travel on transport buses to facilitate the following
    1. Daily return trip.
    2. Trips requiring transfer to more than one bus.
    3. Weekly travel by bus.
    4. School bus travel.

The DLP will reduce the taxes paid by taxi operators in the form of road tax and license fees.

The problems confronting them at the Bridgetown Port will be addressed as a matter of urgency. The taxi owners deserve their Fair Share.

Our planned expansion of the Airport has commenced at long last. A new DLP Government will ensure that the facilities are worker friendly and that a proper maintenance programme is in place to keep this vital gateway to our nation on the cutting edge of international standards.

We believe that the competence, skills and expertise for the effective management of the airport reside in Barbados.

We will:

  • Expose the Airport Staff to ongoing training.
  • Improve working conditions for Air Traffic Controllers.
  • Improve navigation and communication equipment used by air traffic controllers.
  • Improve the working conditions for all categories of staff at the seaport.
  • Remove all the asbestos from the roofs in the Port.
