Leader of the Opposition of St. Vincent and the Grenadines
Godwin Friday is a politician from St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and is the current President of the New Democratic Party (NDP) and Leader of the Opposition.
Early life and education
Goodwin L. Friday was born in 1959 in Bequia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in History & Political Science and Masters in History from the University of Waterloo – Canada; and a Bachelor of Laws Degree and Doctorate in Political Studies from Queen’s University Canada.
Dr. Friday’s professional life has seen him nurturing younger minds in his position of teacher at the Bequia Anglican High School and as a lecturer in Political Studies at Queen’s University in Canada. He worked in the capacity of Project Coordinator / Researcher in the District Immigrant Services. He also acted as legal Counsel to the Canada Department of Justice and the Ontario Regional Office. In 2002, he was called to the bar in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
In the 13 December 2010 general election Fridays was elected to the House of Assembly for the Northern Grenadines. He retained his seat in the 2015 election.
On 17 November 2016, Arnhim Eustace, the party leader and opposition leader of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, resigned, which left Friday with the position as party leader and opposition leader.
Dr. Friday resides with his wife and children, Nicholas and Christian at Port Elizabeth, Bequia.
His interests outside of politics include cricket, yachting, and fishing.
